Welcome to Westminster 174
the Lodge of Freemasons in Langley, BC.
We are a young, active and welcoming community of men from many faiths, backgrounds, professions and walks of life. Our members bring different experiences, interests and perspectives, but we are united by a common purpose: to become better men.
Freemasonry encourages personal growth, moral reflection and service to others. At Westminster Lodge, we strive to deepen our sense of purpose, strengthen our character and use what we learn to benefit our families, our community and our country.

What Is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest fraternal organisations. Its roots reach back to the working traditions of medieval stonemasons, with the modern form taking shape in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Freemasonry offers a thoughtful approach to personal conduct. Through shared learning, symbolism, ceremony and fellowship, members explore ideas about character, responsibility, charity and integrity.
Freemasonry is not a religion. Men of many faiths are welcome, provided they hold a belief in a Supreme Being and aim to live with honesty, respect and care for others.
It is also a community. Lodges around the world bring men together in friendship and service. Here in Langley, Westminster Lodge supports local charitable needs including women’s shelters, food banks, youth organisations and assistance for widows and orphans.
Who Can Join?
Westminster Lodge welcomes enquiries from men who are:
- Of good reputation and sound moral character
- Believers in a Supreme Being
- Twenty‑one years of age or older
- Interested in fellowship, learning and service
- Willing to contribute time and effort to Lodge life
Men from all faiths, cultures and backgrounds are welcome. Freemasonry asks only that each man approach with sincerity and a willingness to learn.
What Do We Do?
Members meet regularly for ceremonies, Lodge business, education and fellowship.
Our ceremonies use long‑standing symbols and teachings to encourage reflection on personal conduct, responsibility, charity and truth. These lessons are meant to be applied in daily life, not kept within the Lodge room.
We also study and discuss ideas connected to ethics, philosophy, leadership and practical behaviour. Members have opportunities to build confidence, public speaking skills, mentorship and leadership in a supportive setting.
Outside formal meetings, Westminster Lodge hosts social events for members, families, friends and guests. These gatherings strengthen our community and support charitable work.
Members come from many backgrounds yet share a common interest in contributing positively to their lives and communities.
Freemasonry is a thoughtful practice that encourages reflection and steady personal growth. Each man’s experience is his own.
Why Do Men Join Us?
Men come to Freemasonry for different reasons. Many seek friendship, purpose, learning and a sense of belonging within a respectful community.
Some value the fellowship: genuine friendships with men of varied experiences. Some value the learning: opportunities to reflect on personal conduct and develop practical skills. Some value the service: contributing to charitable work and supporting the community in Langley and beyond.
At Westminster Lodge, we believe that personal growth happens through shared experience, steady effort and the example of good men working together.
Interested in Becoming a Freemason?
Freemasonry begins with conversation. It is a considered commitment and not something a man simply signs up for online.
If you are curious about Westminster Lodge, you are welcome to contact us. You do not need detailed knowledge of Freemasonry. Many men begin with simple questions such as what happens at a Lodge, what is expected of members or how much time is involved.
The first step is informal. We will arrange a time to speak with you, answer your questions and learn a little about you. You may also be invited to attend a social event and meet some of our members.
There is no pressure to apply. We want every man who approaches Westminster Lodge to feel welcome, respected and well informed. Joining Freemasonry should be a thoughtful decision made freely and sincerely.
If, after speaking with us, you wish to learn more about membership, we can explain the process, the time involved and the responsibilities of the Lodge.
Freemasonry is suited to men who wish to reflect, learn, serve and contribute to their community.
